BLACK

by Koketso, Jasmine, Moreodi & Tierra

He felt a rush of curiosity
He remembered the animosity
But he needed appreciation
He tried to forget all the accusations
Hence he decided to take action
He took the first step
He felt the sunlight
A new dawn, the direction
The life of simplicity
To live in the world of fertility
despite being considered second class race
He is proud and rich
From the land of raw diamonds and gold
He can withstand the heat
He is son of the soil.

Black. When he speaks. When he breathes. When he thinks. When he bleeds.
Should he be scared?
It is what he is.
He is what it is.
So much meaning in that color. But is it just a color?
Like red to a petal of a rose, gold to a crown, amethyst to a stone,
black is to him.
Sometimes it is the reason he shines, sometimes the reason he hides.
Sometimes it is the reason he is proud, sometimes the
reason he is ashamed.
Sometimes it is the reason he loves, sometimes it is the reason he hates.
Something so precious they are.
Should he embrace his color?

Black is his culture
The way he eats
The way he dances
The way he kisses God's feet
He is a conscious black man with a crystal black plan
Black to him is a discussion, a perception, a conversation
For every word he speaks is a reflection of his history
Black is a pro-black argument
Black is every rhythm and blues song written out of lust & passion
Black is every rap lyric spoken through HipHop
Black is his platform black is his stage.
Black is the diamond given to his fiancé
From a Black God to a Black man, he is given a Black wife
From a Black Wife
From her black womb
A child sprouts, comes alive and dims the room
Dark,Lovely and Beautiful
She and He are his everything.

I am stuck to black
Like 1 & 2 & 3
Like A & B & C
Like eyes to see
Like a blind man doesn’t have to see

I call over my God, Allah,
Uuhulunuulu, modimo
Sometimes Badimo
Before reflection of my eyes
I know a smile is nearer
The one that is pure as a baby’s tear
And hid the hunger in her heart
That sing melodies some bittersweet songs that you hear

Believe me, I know how to love as well
Love that is beyond boundaries
It’s me, it’s them, it’s you, love is you and I.
Black is you and I
It’s me and them
Black that is unified
I’m married to her
She is Mary
I am Joseph
I love me, you know real love, I love me
I love my tears, I love my skin, I love my hair, I love my ten toes and my tall tongue.
I know our race will live in eternity
Even after they bury WE

I am stuck to black
Like 1 & 2 & 3
Like A & B & C
Like L to O to V to E

I am stuck to black
Like 1 & 2 & 3
Like A & B & C
Like L to O to to E

I am stuck to black
Like 1 & 2 & 3
Like A & B & C
Like L to O to to E

I am stuck to black
Like 1 & 2 & 3
Like A & B & C
Like L to O to to E

They were born from the soil
It is what he is.
She is what it is.
Black.
